Our History
Graphite Machining, Inc. was founded in 1973 in the metro Detroit, Michigan, area. As the demand for GMI's machined and non-machined graphite increased, GMI outgrew its facility in Detroit and relocated to Metamora, Michigan, in 1988. The company continued to grow, and again needed to expand. In 1997, a new addition was added to the Metamora facility.

With this new addition also came additional CNC and sawing equipment. Continued growth required a second facility in Topton, Pennsylvania, in February 2000. With the addition of Topton, GMI now has over 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space. GMI is one of the major graphite machining companies in North America.

People
More important than equipment is our staff of dedicated, highly experienced people. Any company can purchase equipment, but the experience and attitude of the people involved are what make companies excel. We have a dedicated team of people with extensive graphite experience here to serve you.

Our staff includes Dr. Robert Froberg, who has more than 30 years experience in the field of graphite. He holds a BS in chemical engineering and a PhD in material science from Penn State University, has authored and co-authored numerous papers on various aspects of graphite technology, and has been awarded numerous patents in the field. His expertise and knowledge are a great assistance to our customers by providing unbiased technical support and cost saving solutions.
